Today’s Mama Monday is Jessica Ayala, here she talks about how the pandemic was life and career changing. I share my Naked Skin Aesthetics experience at the end and share a special code you can use for a discount!
Tell us a little about yourself.
“My name is Jessica but I go by Jess. I started my business about a year ago but I did not quit my regular job until about 7 months ago. I started working at the age of 14, and the last 7 years being in sales..I had no idea this is what I’d be doing, the only reason I am where I am is because of the pandemic. I went through a very deep depression & began to question everything including what I was doing with my life career wise. I was no longer happy with my job and I felt lost not knowing what I was going to do. I started to brainstorm other career possibilities, specifically something that gave me more flexibility to spend more time with my son. Eventually lashing was something that caught my attention so I took a course but I hated it. I went on to take a microblading course & loved it. I decided to attend esthetician school. Everything happened so quickly, and I was trying to figure out how to balance my full time job, my new career path, & motherhood. I was mainly working from home at first & an opportunity opened up for me to rent a room at a salon. I was terrified because I didn’t feel like I was ready, I had no clientele, I had not promoted my business yet, & I had already left my job. It was a great opportunity so I decided to take the risk & just put myself out there. The first few months I didn’t have many clients & I was paying out of pocket for my business rent/supplies. It was definitely scary but thankfully my business started to grow & I am more and more booked. I never would have thought I’d be working for myself, as I always saw myself in the corporate world but I am so happy to be where I am at. I truly enjoy working with clients one on one and helping them with their skin concerns/self care.”
What do you love most and least about being an Entrepreneur?
“What I love most about being an entrepreneur is being able to do what I truly enjoy. I no longer look at the clock anxious to clock out. I love being able to have more time with my son & being able to go home in between appointments just to spend a little time with him. What I love the least is not knowing how to do my own bookkeeping.”
How do you balance being a mother and work?
“I balance motherhood and work by booking appointments around my son’s needs. I want to make sure I am setting time aside for him so I will keep a couple hours of each day open specifically for him. It’s great that I am able to do that and that’s only possible while working for myself.
ADVICE for first time moms:
“My advice for first time moms is to set time aside for yourself. You must have some dedicated time for yourself to stay sane & to be at your best self for your child. That does not make you a bad mom. Unfortunately, nowadays I still hear from my own family how I shouldn’t do “this or that” because my son comes first & I should only be dedicating all my time to him. I dedicate most of my time to him but momma needs time to herself too. Don’t ever feel guilty about that!”

MOM HACK: book a facial while you are in the newborn sleep deprived stage! I had the opportunity to relax and take a little nap while refreshing and caring for my skin. I can tell that with the lack of sleep my skin needed some love. I know that water is the biggest factor that affects my skin, but sleep is a close second.
Jess is very professional and her calming voice and sweet demeanor made for a very relaxing facial.
She started with assessing my skin and she then did an anti-aging facial (because 2 kids and mid thirties) with a customized hydrating/brightening mask, facial massage, radio frequency and red light therapy. My skin felt amazing after, very hydrated, including my lips. My eyes looked swollen because I was so relaxed! The last time I got a facial was before my wedding in 2015! I highly recommend booking a facial with Jess, I am definitely going to be back soon.
Contact Jess for pricing as facials are very customized, a basic facial starts at around $100, something like what I did is about $135.
Mention PLAY CO and receive $20 off your facial or other service excluding wax for the month of July!
